Collège Charles Lemaître
Collège Charles Lemaître is a secondary school in Les Monts d’Aunay, a local council community of seven small towns and villages. Collège Charles Lemaitre has been located in the central small town of Aunay sur Odon since the 1970s but got its name from a local poet in 1998.
Our dedicated team of administrators and teachers is composed of Mr Saint-James (Headmaster), Mr Tihy (Deputy headmaster), Mr Brionne (Deputy in charge of SEGPA), Mrs James (Bursar), 2 secretaries, 2 nurses, a social worker, Mr Belhomme (who is in charge of students follow-up and general well-being at school), 7 AED ( who are in charge of monitoring students outside of class time), 5 SEN assistants (who help students with learning issues in class), 9 technicians (who are in charge of taking care of the buildings and the canteen) and about 40 teachers.
All subjects of the curriculum are taught: Humanities, Languages, Art, Sciences, PE… In addition, SEGPA students are taught special subjects with professional and vocational aims: Catering, Hygiene, Building.
In recent years, the school has welcomed around 400 students each year from age 11 to age 15. The 70 special need students in SEGPA benefit from the experience of 6 trained special need teachers. Moreover, about 10% of our students need special help dealing with all kinds of DYS, Attention disorder, visual or hearing impairment…
The school is located in a quite isolated rural area with little to no access to cultural and educational facilities and some families are facing an increasing number of social issues, some students are therefore facing greater trouble developing solid key skills and tend to lose interest in their own education. We believe that school must open students’ horizons, that’s why all the staff is dedicated to developing a cultural open-mindedness, providing comprehensive education and more personal adapted training to help each and every student fulfill their potential and reach the necessary key skills level to help them raise up their ambitions. To reach these goals, teachers and staff focus on students’ well-being at school and personal development.
Teachers offer cross-curricular activities involving a variety of subjects and themes. The students club (FSE) is run by students and teachers and also offers a variety of extra-curricular activities during off-class times. We are also involved in a lot of partnerships with local organizations to promote cultural diversity.
